Default Maytag Atlantis Dryer Does not Stop
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE7400AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a Maytag Atlantis Electric Dryer, model MDE7400AYW. The dryer was working fine, then one day would not turn off. The dryer still heats fine. The symptoms are:

1. Dryer will not turn off in either the IntelliDry mode or Timed Dry mode. The timer does not move regardless of cycle. The dryer can only be turned off by opening the door or pushing in the timer knob.
2. The IntelliDry sensor always indicates "Wet" even when the clothes are bone dry.

I think I've narrowed down the problem to the Intellidry sensor, the "3 Light Dryness Display" logic board, or the timer.

If the Intellidry sensor is faulty, I can understand why the timer doesn't move when using the IntelliDry cycle. However, that doesn't explain why the timer doesn't move when using the Timed Dry cycle. If the timer is bad, that would explain why the timer doesn't move in any mode, but doesn't explain why the IntelliDry sensor always indicates "Wet". Based on the symptoms, I suspect that the "3 Light Dryness Display" logic board (part # PS728838) is bad. However, I'd appreciate any additional troubleshooting tips you can suggest that might help me pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Thanks!

I haven't had any luck narrowing down the problem over the past few days. If you have some ideas, please let me know.

Thank you!

Have you had any luck? ... Fixing your dryer.

I also have a Maytag Atlantis Dryer that runs in the same manner.

The Dryer runs and heats, but the timer does not spin.
I replaced the timer and still no luck.

I haven't fixed it yet, but your experience seems to validate my suspicion that the 3-Light Dryness Display logic board is faulty. I plan to order the part soon. I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

Default Problem Fixed!

I replaced the 3-Light Dryness Display logic board (PartSelect part #PS728838), and the problem is fixed! The IntelliDry sensor lights now work correctly, the dryer stops when the clothes are dry when using the IntelliDry cycle, and the Timed Dry cycle works properly.
