Default Loud scratching-type noise
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DVLR223EEWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

I was drying a load of clothes and I heard a popping noise, followed by a constant scratching-type noise. From what I can tell, the drum still turns and it still gets hot. I'm not sure if it will still actually dry clothes because I took the clothes out and took them to a neighbor's house to finish. Any ideas?

the type of dryer you have has glides in the front and a rear glide if the dryer has not been looked at fo acouple of years then the glides may be worn out and is dragging into the housing.

I've only had the dryer for a little over a year, my warranty ran out 2 weeks ago - talk about timing. Are the gliders something that I can look at and fix or is it something a professional would have to fix. Would you say it's safe to use occassionally until it's fixed (like it's not going to catch fire or anything)? Thank you.

It is very obvious to me that your heating element in the back wall behind drum has broken. Just pull dryer apart and check. These will blow if you have restricted airflow.

Probably bad drum roller, I use non-detergent oil to fix. Also check idler pully.
