Default Less Dry / More Dry Timer Malfunction?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: DE482
Age: More than 10 years

My dryer kept running and did not turn off by itself when set to "More Dry". I found that a wire connector had broken off the heating element connector (almost looked burnt). I figured whatever senses how dry the laundry is must not have sensed that anything was dry because the heating element was not heating up and the laundry never dried so it just kept running. I fixed the connector and the heating element worked again. Now when set on "Less Dry" or "More Dry" the dryer heating element stays on and the timer does not shut it off. The dryer seems to work fine when set to a regular Timed Dry" setting.

It sounds like the contact in the thermostat may have weld together.

The part number for the cycling thermostat is PS1514040.

Here is a link to your dryer model DE482.
