Default Kenmore stack buzzer and element won't shut off
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 98702891
Age: 5 - 10 years

I'm sorry if this is not in the right place. I looked around, but found nothing applicable.

My dryer just started doing this. When the dryer is finished in it's cycle, the buzzer sounds, but won't desist. Upon opening the door, the heating element continues to glow. After a few moments of the element glowing, there is a clicking sound, and the element de-energizes... assumably from a high-limit temperature switch.

I am an electrician; however, without an electrical schematic I'm not sure how this thing operates. So, I started looking for a schematic on the web and came across this forum.

Edit: The dryer motor will not start upon re-closing the door. The buzzer and heating element (pending cool-down) continue to run.

Sounds like your motor switch, ie. the part that stops the current to the element when motor stops, might have fuzed together contacts.
To test the 2 red wires on motor start switch, should show open with motor off, if closed element will be energized all the time, just my opinion.Bettyboop

Ah ha! The things you find when you start removing panels... a wiring schematic!

A sticking centrifugal switch in/on the motor is exactly the conclusion I now come to. So, I wrapped on it a few times, plugged the dryer back into the wall, and it seems to run fine once again. After doing a search, the updated Frigidaire motor assembly part number is 5303283470. However, I don't see just the centrifugal switch anywhere. So, I'm off to get a can of electrical parts cleaner, vacuum out the inside of the cabinet and see if it isn't perhaps just sticking intermittently due to lint.

The centrifugal start switch, is where the motor wires plug into the motor. The contacts in the motor switch weld themselves together, and will not repair themselves, and switch or motor will need replacing.

Problem solved. Sprayed 1/2 of a can of electric parts cleaner through the motor assembly, after thoroughly vacuuming the inside of the cabinet, and allowed to dry completely. Have not had the problem since. I suspect lint inhibited the returning action of the centrifugal switch.
