Default Kenmore Electric Dryer - themostat
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110-86983110
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer stopped during normal cycle. Would not restart. After time (approx. 1 hr), could restart. Ran less then minute, quit. Cleaned all vent systems - could start but quit almost immediately.

Suspect thermostat? How to test? All replies appreciated!

The thermostats only control the heating of the dryer not the motor.

It does sound like the motor is over heating.

Take the dryer apart and make sure that all the lint is cleaned away from the motor.

Make sure the drum is turning freely. You should be able to turn with one hand.

If the problem continues the motor will have to be replaced.

Here is a link to the parts of your dryer model 110-86983110.

Thanks for the response. I will try your suggestion this week-end. One correction to my question - I should have said thermo-cut off instead of thermostat. Does the thermo-cut off cause the motor to quit?

The motor has an overload protector that is built in the motor.

The other thermo-cut offs that are in the dryer are all for the heating.
