[quote=RussH;42499]Hello Hi Russ,
I would start with the door switch, if you door is not closed all the way of if this switch is bad the dryer will not start, if you remove the lint screen you should see two screw, if you remove these and lift the top up(stick a screwdriver in each corner where top meets the sides and pry up. on the right hand side you should see a wires and a plug leading to the door, if you unplug this and use your meter you should be able to see if that switch is working. You will need to put you meter on the continunity scale, it should have a symbol like an Omega, touch the tips of you test leads together and the meter should swing all the way over to the other side. If it doesn't your either on the wrong scale or your battery in your meter is bad.
If you get the meter to work stick your test leads in the plug (make sure dryer is unplugged) and push the switch in, your meter should peg out if the switch is good.
This is only a quik brief troubleshooting tip, I suspect the door switch though.

My issue is with a Kenmore dryer 96588210 or 10096588210. The dryer was running. It was stopped to check the load. The dryer will not start now. I have checked the power and circuit breakers. All good. When I press the start button, I think I hear the timer click.
I need help operating a multimeter so I can test the parts.
I can get to the starter button, timer, and other parts under the top rear control panel. I can get to parts behind the kick plate.
If my problem is in a different location I would love to hear about it.
I do not know how to use a multimeter. Any help would be appreciated. I have an old RadioShack multimeter that can be connected to a computer. ( I know I don't need the computer but it was 50 cents at a garage sale.) I am baffled by the number of settings on the multimeter.
Any advise on operating a multimeter and what readouts various parts should have would be appreciated.
Thanks
Russ
