Default Kenmore control board
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.70092990
Age: 5 - 10 years

This Kenmore Elite gas dryer has an electronic control pad and based on the parts schematic is a Whirlpool style version 2. It’s worked well since purchased in 2000 and had a maintenance agreement for first five years including annual cleaning.

Currently the dryer starts with no unusual motor noise and dries for a short period and then beeps continuously and displays a check lint screen light. I disassembled and cleaned the lint duct, blower housing assembly, dryer exhaust pipe, metal flex tube and exhaust pipe to outside. Also, cleaned lint buildup around burner tube and motor, although there wasn’t much buildup. Removed, tested and cleaned the thermal fuse and thermistor from blower housing. Fuse showed continuity and thermistor showed 9 ohms at 80F. Ran self diagnostic on touchpad which was normal.

The control panel starts normally but defaults from any setting to: normal, med high, normal dry, 40 min auto dry, check lint screen. Once on these indications they cannot be changed regardless of what keypads are pushed or after the dryer is completely cooled down or power is cycled. The next day the defaults are gone but immediately reoccur when drying is restarted. Once on these indications it will continue to dry while beeping, but once stopped will not restart.

I suspect a bad electronic control board but am not anxious to replace this expensive part if it’s really something simple that I’m missing. Any ideas?

Your thermistor is probably bad, just replace it.

Two loads of laundry on the new thermistor and the dryer is malfunctioning again, same symptoms as the initial post. The dryer was off and cooled down from drying when I heard a beep and when I went to investigate found the control pad lit up and locked out again. Any other ideas?
