Default Kemore dryer won't heat
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.86874800
Age: More than 10 years

One day last week I was doing my laundry, and was on the third load to be dried. It worked fine for the first two loads, but the last load would not dry, and also would not turn off automatically at the end of the cycle. I noticed that the dryer was not heating to dry the clothes. I know my dryer has seen better days. Is there anything I can do to fix it, or should I go and buy another dryer.

Please help,

Of course lets start this out by saying, did you check your breaker to make sure it is not partially tripped? If all is well there, Unplug the dryer, lets take the back off the dryer, and to the right on the bottom is the heating element, it could be bad. Take off 1 of thwe wires, and ogm it out. If you get any reading it is good. If you get no reading, replace it. The other part that it could be is the thermal fuse. It is located on the top of the heating element housing. It has 2 wires coming to it. take the wires off, and ohm it out, no reading, its bad. It will be 1 of the 2. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I checked the breaker, and it looks fine. I have a couple of questions. What does ogm and ohm mean? I have opened the cover and wanted to know if the heating element and thermal fuse located behind a metal cover that is placed at an angle? If so, how do I get the metal cover off to get to the wires?

Thanks,

Here are is a parts breakdown, may help identifying parts
Kenmore Parts for Models 11086874800

Here is a good link for help on dryer repair
Dryer Help Sections, repairing dryers, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Maytag, Inglis, GE, Frigidaire, White Westinghouse, Magic Chef, Norge, changing a 3 prong cord to a 4 prong cord, no heat, electric dryers, gas dryers, how to take apart my dryer, what can st

I believe ogm is just a typo

Now for basic electrical, hopefully understandable!!
Volts - The amount of force pushing electrons through a wire
Amps - The amount of electrons being pushed through a wire
Ohms - The amount of resistance to the electrons being pushed through a wire

A closed contact will have 0 ohms
An open contact will have infinite ohms
A heater coil will have some ohms (depends on specified wattage). It is the resistance to the flow of electrons which creates heat. A dryer heater is usually around 10 ohms.

I have been having the exact same problem. I have a Kenmore 70 series gas dryer. I did some digging on the net and read about the thermal fuse. I ordered one and just replaced it but my dryer still won't heat. What can I check next?

EDIT: Also, I have looked for the heating element and some of the more common parts I have read about but I am unable to locate them. Where can I get a picture or diagram of where these parts are physically located on the dryer?
