Default I can get it to run, but...
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: YG205KW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Here's what I see. I hope you can help.

When I push the start/timer button I hear a strong humming sound from the top and back of the dryer. The dryer will not start.

The problem started on Wednesday in the wee hours of the morning. Before leaving for work on Wednesday morning I was able to start the dryer by holding the door switch with my knee, turning the drum with my left hand, and pushing in the start/timer button. According to my wife the load was dry 40 minutes later when the timer buzzer went off.

By getting the dryer running with the above method I assumed that I had a mechanical issue. I pulled the dryer apart this morning and thoroughly vaccumed dust, lint, and other foreign debris out. The belt to be in good shape. The indler pully had four to fice black melted spots on it. It appeared to be part of the belt. I also pulled the two drum wheels off, cleaned the posts. and lubricated them w/silicone and reassembled the dryer. I also cleaned out the duct going from the dryer to the outside of the house.

Good news It runs the same, but now I have to hold the start/timer button in to keep it running. Heat is fine drum turns.... Will not start without my physically kickstarting it with the door open.

Any ideas? Frustrated, but laughing at myself.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Here is a link to your unit with a wiring diagram
Maytag YG205KW

Sounds like you need a new motor
The centrifugal switch in the motor is probably shot
Once the motor reaches operating revs, it should go from 2/A to 2/7. Then the run winding gets power through the timer contacts L/M instead of the start switch.

The push start is required because either the switch is not working or the AUX (start) winding is burned out.
