Can you please verify your model number?

Open the dryer door and check for screw.

If there are no screw there are clip that hold the top down.

Hi I have a GE dryer the 5 ribbed belt with red inside broke too I opened the little door in the back on the bottom and pulled the old belt out. (about 2 screws) tried to take off back panel but it is welded onto the sides. so I opened the front door and looked up to see four screws. opened the lid and do not know what to do when the belt comes ordered 9/9/08. Keep me posted it you get it fixed before January 13, 2008. Thanks

With the lid up look inside toward the front panel and you will see a screw in each corner.

Remove the screws and pull the panel forward.

Slide the belt around the drum ribbed side down on the drum.

Go to the back to the access panel where you pull the belt out.

Run the belt under the idler pulley and hook it on to the motor pulley.
