Default How to open & replace belt?
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GGX9868JT3
Age: 1 - 4 years

Drum stopped turning - can hear motor humming, etc - Was able to open top JUST enough to see the belt laying across the top of the drum - and retrieved the belt - broken....

NOW WHAT? I have ordered the part - But how do I open the dryer and replace the belt?

Unplug the dryer.

Remove the lint filter.

Remove the two screws and pop the top.

Look inside toward the front and locate one screw in each corner and remove them.

Lean the front forward and pull up.

Swing the panel to one side or remove the wires and place out of your way.

Place the belt ribbed side down around the drum.

Run the belt through the idler pulley and lop over the motor pulley.

Do not take the pulley apart.

Sheila -

Thank you! With your instructions it just took about 5 minutes to open the dryer up - now I just wait for the belt to arrive!

MANY MANY THANKS!

It fits in the slots before the motor pully, belt gets routed thru the idler pully and on to the motor pully, it can only go on one way to provide tension to the belt.
