When you start the gas dryer how long should a typical dryer burner stay on before it kicks off.

What controls the burner from going on an off during a cycle?

Both gas and electric dryers have thermostats that control the heat.

The cycling thermostat cycles at approximately 150 degrees.

The high limit cycles at approximately 200 degrees for electric and 220 degrees for gas.

I am not sure on the time.
