Can someone please walk me through the steps I need to check the motor and fuses and thermostat? I have taken electrical courses in college but have not tested lines for continuity, run current, etc.

dryer does not start, but I can hear the timer going when I turn on the timer. I suspect the motor at this pt. I have checked the fuses and they were not blown.

The only other thing is the dryer has been making a soft, high pitched hum after replacing the blower fan about 6 weeks ago. Almost like a high pitched micro saw they use in dentist offices, but not very loud. Sound seemed to have gone away but it returned yesterday when the dryer made it's last run...

Does not start at all, not even after a respite.

What meters do I need? Multi meter? ohm meter? Volt meter? Any websites to explain how to do a continuity check and check motors?

Update: Okay I got a multi meter and went about testing. So far nothing is burnt out. Door switch is okay. I found 3 fuses I think, one near the heater coil and two on the blower wheel. They all have continuity. The motor also appears to have continuity. The electrical power outlet also seems to produce 240 volts AC... I set the timer for 15 min. to see if it will turn off...I suspect the timer controller at this pt..anyone?

Per. the schematic check the windings in the motor, one may be open, next check the timer pins supplying power to the motor. You can apply power directly to the motor with a "cheater" cord, to see if it will run.

What is a cheater cord? Is that like a bypass of the fuses? Really have no idea what that is.

The timer does run, it will time out just no power to the motor. I found at least one pair of contacts on the timer that have continuity but nothing else. Does that suggest a problem with the timer?
