Default HELP: Dryer seems to overdry loads
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LDE9306ACE
Age: More than 10 years

Hello. Thank god for you kind professionals.

The problem is that my dryer seems to run for extended periods of time and the clothing inside becomes very hot and the machine continues to run much longer than is needed to dry. Eventually the buzzer rings and the machine shuts off. Again, once the cycle is complete, the clothes are extremely hot.

I was wondering if i should replace both the timer and thermostat or just one of these. Possibly neither of these are the problem. Please help ! Thanks for your time.

Chris

It sound like it may be the cycling thermostat that is not working.

What cycle are you using when drying your clothes?

Here is a link to your dryer model LDE9306ACE.

Hi Sheila,

I use "regular" when drying my clothes. Permenant press also seems to run forever and is hot. Same with delicate.

Hi.

My wife ordered a timer before i heard from you. So i installed the timer. Will the timer speed up to complete the cycle once the clothes are dry? Or will it continue to run the length of the cycle while the the thermostat turns on and off the heating element? She is convinced that the timer will speed up once the machine senses the clothes are dry. Is that infact true?

On the auto dry cycle the timer advances when the thermostat cycle off.

The cycling thermostat is the one with for wires on it.

This thermostat is likely what is causing your problem.

I would only replace the timer. T - Stat sounds fine. Sounds like the timer is dragging. This should fix your problem.
Thanks rblh65

I replaced the timer and after an hour of drying sheets, the timer was only halfway through and the sheets came out burning hot...shall i replace the cycling thermo? Maybe the high-limit thermo?

Thanks
