Default Heating Element always on
Brand: Sears
Model Number: 110.64622300
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello all,
Here's the problem with my dryer, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:
If the timer is in the off position all is well. Moving the timer from any off position to any heat position will cause the heating element to come on without hitting the start button and turning the motor on. I have replaced the motor, believing that the centrifugal switch located on the motor was the problem. Alas, it is not. Replacing the motor did not fix the problem.
Attached is a jpeg of the schematic. The only way that the line L2 connection gets to the heater is through the switch on the motor. Is it possible that the timer is the problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

The heating element could be broken inside and grounding out on the case.

I would remove the element from the case and look it over or check it with a meter.
