Unhappy GE Dryer Stops Running
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DS4500EY-1WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello. I replaced the following parts when our dryer was squealing and tearing up clothes.

PS960316 DRUM BEARING
PS266709 SLIDE WH (2)
PS266785 Dryer Drum Slide (2)

Drum seems to be tumbling smoothly now. HOWEVER, now it appears that after the dryer heats up, it stops working altogether and I cannot restart it for a short while. I've tried several times, same thing. Is it possible that the drum is now "hanging up" on the other end? What did I do wrong?

Thanks!

After you repaired your dryer, did you leave 6" of clearence behind the dryer? If not it will severly over heat and trip internal breaker

Thank you for the response. Yes, there is at least 6 in. clearance. I did try running the dryer with less items, which only left 2 pair jeans and 1 pair shorts in it, and it did keep running this time. However, this would never be practical. ?? Something to do perhaps with the weight of the load (if you can call three items a load?)

I did notice a noise earlier that I can only describe as the drum "struggling" and then it quit. Do you think it's possible that I do not have the drum sitting properly somehow?

It's a good chance your motor is going out. Does your motor growl or buzz when you push the start button?

OK, the dryer ran until (what I can only assume) it heated up (motor?) then it just quit. When I tried to restart it, there is no "buzz" necessarily, but after two attempts on the start button, it stopped even trying to start again (no sound at all.) Sooo, I'm guessing you're right - looks like a new dryer is in our future?

Thanks for the replies...
