Default GE Dryed cuts out
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DDE7108
Age: More than 10 years

Not sure where to turn. The dryer starts normally with both heating coils active. However within 60 to 90 seconds after starting both cfoils shut down. 'the dryer contiinues to tumble, but no heat. The heater coils will remain inoperative until the machine is shut off and allowed to cool. After a cooling period, this cycle will repeat on restart.

When the coils shut down, the high limit thermostat at the coils is functioning mormally with the current continuing to pass after the coils ave shut down. Both coils are working normally.

I do not know where to turn now. Would appreciate some insights.

Check your vent and the air flow at the dryer.

This sound like an air flow restriction.

Sheila, thank you for your response.

I have cleaned and vaccumed all ductwork in the macine and to the outside. This acts as a high limit thermostat problem, but the one at the coils is functioning normally (replaced with new and checked during operation with meter). In fact, out of frustration and the hope of scoring a long shot, I have also replaced the coils, and the 135 and 145 degree door thermostats. Note of which has helped.

I so not have a wiring diagram. Are there any fuses/fuseable links or similar elsewhere in the unit. What can shut down both the coils, but not the motor and reset itself after cooling? I am at a loss. Advise?

I found a wiring diagram for my dryer. It shows that this unit has a BOARD & RESISTOR-TERM in line with the common terminal coming off the coils (the middle terminal). I am not familiar with this devise and whether it could be the culprit. Does anyone know somthing about the BOARD & RESISTOR-TERM?

Are you using an auto dry setting on the timer?

The board & resistor -term is for the auto dry.

The the dryer on the time dry.

The problem may be in the timer. The cam could be worn and not holding the contacts together.
