My gas dryer hums when I turn the start switch but wont actually start. If I manually turn the drum it will turn on but obviously shuts off brfore I can get the door closed. Anyone have an idea of what is wrong?

Yes, yopu motor start winding is bad. You need to replace your motor. If you can't do it yourself, and have to pay a service man, you might as well buy a new dryer. Buy a basic whirlpool. A timer and a start switch, and it will last a long time with a good clean vent. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
