Default Gas Dryer heats only initially; runs forever
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LDG8704AAL
Age: More than 10 years

Our clothes take two or more hours to dry. I've thoroughly cleaned the vent ducting. The gas is igniting and burning for awhile, then the gas turns off and the dryer cools. The tumbling and blower seem to work fine. It just doesn't stay warm enough, although for the first few minutes it seems to heat up just fine.

I worked on this a couple of months ago and think I replaced the Hi-Limit Thermostat and the Multi-Temp Thermostat, but can find my records.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Joe

The gas burner cycles on every couple of minutes; but it turns off, just as it is approaching a reasonably warm temperature. This leaves the clothes tumbling at a more-cool-than-warm temperature.

Are you overstuffing the dryer, maybe causing it to work too hard and triggering a safety feature?

Is the burner flame orange or blue? If it's orange, check the airflow at the vent exhaust of the house. If you have good airflow, check the flame sensor for continuity. If that's good, the solenoid coil is probably bad.
