Cool Frigidaire Dryer won't start
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FDE647RFS0
Age: 5 - 10 years

When the start button is turned, it makes a humming noise, but the dryer won't turn on. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be or where to start looking?

First thing to check is will the drum turn by hand relatively easy
If it does then the odds are you have an electrical problem and you will have to open it up to investigate further

The drum moved freely when I turned it. I tried to turn the drum while holding the start button and the door sensor at the same time and it did start up. Does that mean it's the motor?

Default Start Winding

Your motor has 2 windings a Start and a Run
At motor start both windings are on once the motor gets close to its run speed the start winding is disconnected.
This is usually done by a pair of switches on a centrifugal speed mechanism, this is part of the motor.
It could be that this mechanism is just dirty, clogged up with lint
One of the switches has failed
A winding has burned out
I'd try cleaning the motor out first

Thanks Denman! This will sound bad, but both my washer and dryer went out last Sunday, so yesterday I just bought a brand new washer and dryer. Thanks for your help though!
