Default Electric dryer heats, tumbles, but doesn't dry clothes
Brand: Roper
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello all,

I am seeking some advice on my Roper electric dryer that is about 5 years old. It was working fine about a week ago. We recently moved, and I am not aware of any damage to the dryer. I hooked it up on the second floor which has a a dryer vent exhaust that leads to the outside roof area. I ran a vent cleaning brush through the piping before I hooked up the hose.

The problem is that the drum will spin, and the dryer does heat up, but doesn't dry the clothes. I put it on automatic cycle which ran for about 30 minutes or so 5 different times last night, and the clothes were still damp. Also, there was no lint on the lint trap. I can't access the roof to feel if the exhaust is coming out of the vent, but I can hear it when I step outside. From within the laundry room, I can smell a hint of a burning smell, not real bad, but smells like something is wrong.

Is the heating element going bad, or is my exhaust vent plugged up deeper than where I can get with the cleaning brush? It's only a $250 dryer, that may not be worth fixing depending on what the problem is.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I need some background, was your former home a house with dryer vent that went a few feet and out the wall and outside? Have you tried running the dryer with the dryer vent hose off to see if it works as it did at your last home?
Try that, causeI think your apt vent is clogged as some are, let me know. Bettyboop

Well, it turns out that now the dryer doesn't even heat anymore and I don't see the heating element glowing either, so I guess it's toast! We have been planning on buying a larger dryer anyways but wanted to get a little more use of of these. So, we decided to purchase a new dryer as it would cost $75 or so to get this one fixed.
