Unhappy Electric Dryer Heating Temp
Brand: Roper
Model Number: REX3514RQ0
Age: 1 - 4 years

My dryer heated perfectly until I moved it to another home. It will heat but not to the hottest temperature. When I look inside I see an orange glow in one place. I am assuming this must be the heating element. What could be causing the problem? I am trying to fix it myself to keep cost down. Please help a mother of 3 that needs her dryer!

Here is a link to the parts breakdown
Whirlpool REX3514RQ0

When you say it is not getting hot enough, how do you know? OR is it just taking longer to dry a load ?

Did you check the vent system (cleanliness and proper outside vent flap operation)
Above applies only if the symptom is "just taking longer to dry a load"

Also are you sure the unit is getting 220 volts, turn the breaker on/off slowly a couple times. Better yet check it with a meter.

Another possibility is that the heating element moved or broke during the move and is now touching the frame, so only part of it is actually heating.

Remove the heater and check it
Best done with a volt/ohm meter, checking it to the case but can be done visually.

Mother of three,

Location could be an issue. Where did you move? I only ask because we tend to have an issue here with natural gas dryers versus LP gas. Big difference. If this is not the issue than I want to know what you mean by "The hottest temperature"?

Also, did you have a in line valve installed on your previous location or now at your new location?

I do believe you should take Mr. Denman's advice on the vent. How about pulling the vent house off at the back wall, and run a cycle. If you are worried about lint going in the house. Put a panty hose on the vent hose. If you need me I can be reached at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
