Post Electric dryer
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER3624EQ1
Age: 5 - 10 years

A couple of months ago my dryer would run w/o pushing the start button as long as timer was not in off position, worked like this for about 2 weeks, then went back to normal. Now,the dryer is not shutting down, timer knob goes to cool down and stays there, also now just since it wont shut down theres no heat.No circuit breakers tripped--just want to figure it out w/o replacing parts that are fine.Thought it may be something w/ the timer knob, like its stuck in the cool down mode.

You didn't say if it works on timed dry.
I would replace both the operating and hi-limit thermostats. works most of the time for me Betty Boop

Theres no heat on either timed or auto dry cycle, the heat stopped working exactly when the timer would not go from cool down to off.

Have you checked the thermal fuze at the top of the heater box,it protects the heat element it blows the fuze to prevent element from burning out. you can ck this by unplugging the dryer, unplug the thermal's 2 big red wires and wrapping the ends together with tape to temporarly bipassing the fuze, if it now works buy a new fuze. DO NOT RUN IT WITHOUT A NEW FUZE

Here is a good link
Inglis-Whirlpool-Kenmore dryers, common repair problems, idler pulleys, belt, drum rollers, noises, how to take apart, no heat problems, replacing the drum rollers, replacing the heating element, motor problems

Take a look at #38

If you want to reduce the possibility of ordering unnecessary parts, get a volt/ohm meter. You can get a decent digital multimeter for under $20.00. It is nice if the leads a couple feet long. If it saves ordering one unnecessary part it has paid for itself.

Been reading posts w/ similar problems, wondering if there's a problem w/ contol panel since previously had problems w/ dryer running w/o pushing start button.Thinking maybe about replacing dryer--not sure if that wouldn't be cheaper in the long run.
