Default Dryer works when it want to....
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KEYS850JQ0
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello....

My dryer was just having problems starting all the time, now it will not start at all...In the past I would turn the timer to More Dry...press the start button and it would complete the load without a problem...Then a few loads later it would not start, I would have to turn the timer a couple of times and then it would start up.....Now it will not start at all......I tried to hold down the start button and spin the timer to see if it would start(this sometimes worked in the past) and it did start for a few seconds on Extra care, but then the buzzer came on and it cut off.........Usually if I could get it started, it would stay on the entire cycle. I pulled the start button and checked it with the multimeter..not sure if I did it correctly. The start button is a three prong relay...I turned the multimeter on ohms and put one of the test leads on one of the prongs with a hole and the other on the solid prong....Pressed the button and received a 0 reading...I also did this with the other prong and received a reading of around 2.3, which I believe shows the switch is good....I then pulled off the back and checked the thermal fuse for continuity...and that also seemed ok...Could it be the timer? How can I check the timer? What else could it be? Thanks for any help anyone can give.......

If all you were doing was rotating the timer and then it woud start, then there is a 90% chance that the timer is bad. You have an intermittant conact set.

I would would remove then reseat each wire that goes to the timer just to be sure it is not a loose connector. Also check the wire connectors for signs of overheating or looseness

If you have a wiring diagram you can check the timer contact setswith your meter.

As to your door switch readings. Whenever you check a device you should remove one connection to it so you do not read a parallel path.
The Start switch is Normally Open / Common / Normally Closed
You probably read the interior light bulb which is connected to the Normally Closed side.
Remove the Common lead or all of them
With the switch non activated NC side = 0 ohms, NO = infinite
With switch activated NO = 0 ohms, NC = infinite

Thank you for the reply...I reset all the wires for the timer and none seemed loose or burned..Tried again and still did not work....You are the second person that said they were almost positive that it is the timer....So, probably going to order one tomorrow...I don't have a schematic for the dryer, and not sure I would be able to read it if I had one........Just thought there might be an easy way to test the Timer......Thanks......
