Default Dryer wont switch on
Brand: Inglis
Model Number: RO-83000
Age: More than 10 years

I have a very old Inglis Dryer (model : RO-83000). Cant seem to find this model in any searches. The dryer stopped running yesterday. When you push the 'start' button, nothing happens (no motor sound, nothing at all). Could it be a fuse or something thats gone? Where do i start, to figure out what the problem is?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Start with the fuses in your house panel.

There are two 30 amp fuses that run the dryer.

Replace both fuses with one that you know are good.

Try the dryer.

If it does not run drop the front panel on the dryer and check the belt.

If the belt is broken replace the belt.

If the belt is good check the wires at the back of the dryer where the cord comes in.

One may be burnt off.

Thanks for the guidance. Checked the circuit breaker panel and the breakers for the dryer haven't tripped. The dryer is a front loader. Do I need to drop the front in order to check the belt or do i open up the back?

thx.

Pull back and check for burnt wires. Pull timer apart and check for burnt contacts.

Popped the back yesterday and took a look around. All wires (start switch, timer, power) and contacts seem ok - no burns. Tested switches for continuity. How do i test the timer? May wires going to it? Cant see the motor or belt from the back so im assuming i am going to have to open the front? side? Also, should i be looking for the thermal fuse? Where would that be? Thx again.

Check the element for continuity.

You will have to remove the front panel to access the belt.

So i managed to open up the front yesterday and found the belt to be broken!

Before i get the belt i would like to make sure that motor is ok. How do i go about testing the motor using my multimeter? I see 5 wires going to this black block on the motor. 3 wires then go into the motor. Which ones should i be using to test the motor.

When i do replace the belt, i am assuming the grooved side goes on the inside (against the motor pully and therefore against the drum)?

Thanks.

Just put 115 volts to pins 4& 5 of the motor to test.

Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Your help was much appreciated. The motor seemed fine so i went ahead and got a new belt. Cleaned up the dust inside, lubed the rollers and installed the belt (offcourse with the grooved side towards the drum and motor pulley). Put all the panels back on and the dryer is finally running again! Thanks again to all that posted.
