My dryer starts out hot but doesn't remain hot. There are no kinks in the vent nor is the vent blocked. Any suggestions?

If the heat is cutting out and not coming back on there is something causing the dryer to over heat.

With the vent removed turn the dryer on and check for good air flow.

The blower wheel may not be turning.

Check down the lint chute for obstructions.

Here is a link to your dryer model LGR8648LW0.

The overload thermostat will cut off before the thermal fuze blows, neat idea saves thermal fuzes!! This overload thermostat takes a few minutes to click back on. Is this the symptom when the heat goes off? If so you either have bad airflow or a shorted heater.
