Angry Dryer wont start-Just put in a New Heating Element-it worked then stopped
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: series 80
Age: 5 - 10 years

I Just changed the heating element in my Kenmore series 80 electric dryer. It was running for a short while (10 minutes) then stopped. Now it is not responding at all. The old heating element had a cracked coil and thus needed to be replaced and I replaced it.

What can be the new problem--I checked my fuse box and made sure to reset it--but it was not tripped...the dryer just does not respond anymore.

Two things it can be, either your door switch, but most likely your thermal fuse. Take the back off the dryer, and the thermal fuse is about an inch and a half long, and a half inch wide, and it white in color. Make sure the dryer is unplugged, and then take the 2 wires off, and put them together, and put some tape around it, so it does not hit metal, and thenplug it it, and see if it comes on. If it does, do not run it like that, that part is the only thing that keeps the house from burning down. Then make sure your vent is clear to the outside. It should blow real well. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Hi Tom!

Exactly as you said! You are a life saver---I ordered the Thermal Fuse and am waiting for it...why would it blow out all of a sudden?

It could be just time, or the vent to the outside could be restricted or partially restricted. Check it out. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Hi Tom-

I received the fuse and changed it out--the dryer worked for about 4 loads and then stopped working again. I don't see that the vent is restricted...??? Any suggestions?
