My 16 yo dryer which has NEVER had a problem won't start. When I push the start button it buzzes. My husband pulled the back off to look at the belt and said the belt was fine. He took that off and brought it to an appliance repair place and they tested it and said it was fine and it was probably the motor.
I need a second opinion before I call a repair person or buy a new dryer!

Yes it does sound like the motor.

Open the dryer door and hold the door switch in the closed position.

Turn the dryer to the on position and when it is buzzing turn the drum by hand.

If the drum starts to turn on it own it is the start winding in the motor that is bad and the motor will have to be replaced.
