Question Dryer won't start
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 90 Plus Series
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have 10 year old 90 plus series Kenmore. The dryer makes an humming sounds and it sounds as if it is trying to rotate drum(clothes holder) and then it dies. At one time it was able to rotate the drum for an hour and now that is not happening anymore. What are the things that I need to checking for? I see a light in lighting in the clothes compartment/drum. Belts, fuses etc? Any advise is appreciated

Thanks
Srini

Does it only hum when you hold the start button in and when you release it the humming stops?

Can you please supply your model number?

The model number should be on the front of the dryer in the opening when you open the door.

It sounds like the start winding in the motor has failed and you will have to replace the motor.

Your motor is most likely your problem. If it does run for a while. Does it cut off, and then it won't come back on till it cools down. If so you do need a motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

My model/stock number is 68944890 / 68944. Type no: 138-00 and serial number is MH 0901370. The dryer has been working once in a while, since I last posted here about the problem. Once the weather got warmer, the dryer also started working once in a week enough to dry a weeks worth of clothes. Sometimes if would run for one hour, some other times it would just run for 20 minutes. I need to wait overnight for it to run again. It seems to show the symptoms that you pointed out.

From your analysis and I need to buy the motor. Where can I buy the motor and how much does it cost? Is it easy to replace it myself?

Thanks a lot for your advise.

You can buy a motor from Appliance Parts From PartSelect | Repair Parts For Major Appliances.

Here is a link to the parts of your dryer model 11068944890.

Here is the motor part number PS334287.
