Default Dryer won't start
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GEQ9800PW1
Age: Please select

Howdy,
Well, just like everyone, my dryer won't start. Whirlpool Ultimate Care 2 and when push start buttom can hear timer running. Nothing else. I have read for several days and have disassembled, checked thermal fuse(ohms were 0), even taped the lines together to make sure, checked ohms on both thermal cut off and Hi Limit thermostat, cycling thermostat and Heating Element. All show 0 ohms on meter. Also checked the door switch and the start button-all OK. I tried to test ohms on motor, but not sure I was testing correctly.
About to the point of giving up and calling for help!
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Danny

Have you check the voltage at the wall outlet?

You should have 240 volts.

If you don't one of the fuses in your panel are open or a wire may burnt off in the outlet.

Check the wires where they are connected at the back of the dryer.

Here is a link to your dryer model GEQ9800PW1.

Thanks for the reply, but yes, first thing before tearing into the dryer was to check breaker, 220 plug and wires to back of dryer, all OK. I am not an electrician, but fairly handy and can wire any outlet or switch, 110 or 220.
Other thoughts?

Huntgas, most people who ohm out components do not pull the wires off, when they check them, therefore, you get a false reading. Why don't you try this. Unplug the dryer, and locate the thermal fuse, it is a white disc, that sits on the blower assembly, and take the 2 wires off, and put them together, and put a little tape on them so they don't hit metal, and turn the dryer on. I bet it comes on and heats. If you need any further instruction, I can be reached at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Have you checked the push to start switch?

Check the door switch actuator to see if it is broken.

Again, thanks to both for the reply. Yes as in my original post, I checked door switch and start button with ohm meter and both OK. When I checked all the other switches, I took the wires loose before testing and all OK. I did try wiring the two wires off the thermal fuse together and no good.
I can only assume the problem must be in the motor or in the dryer controls.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Danny

Check to see where you are loosing your power.

If all the switches are checking good see where you loose your power.

If the timer motor is running then you now you have 110 volts to the timer but are the contact in the timer closing.

You should be able to check with your meter and wiring diagram.

Have you check the switch on the motor?
