Default Dryer won't start
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LGC8858DQO
Age: More than 10 years

I have a 12 year old Whirlpool dryer that won't start. When I push the start button I can hear the timer start to tick but nothing else happens. I went through each of the steps listed on your website for when a dryer won't start... checked the door switch, starter, thermal fuse, thermostat, timer, and motor and everything checked ok with an ohmmeter. What should I check now?

The small white plastic thermal on the blower housing has to have continuity,You positivly have to 240 volts at the power terminal on the back of dryer, and no burnt off wires any where,Bettyboop

Is there any chance you could be a little bit more specific? This is my first time trying to fix my dryer and I don't know that much. What do you mean by "The small white plastic thermal on the blower housing has to have continuity." Are you talking about the thermal fuse? I checked that with my meter and it said it was good.

Thanks!!!

Yes, small white plastic thermal, on blower housing. WheneverI say that, every one looks to the thermal cutoff on the heat element which is not white plastic, your origional post said "I checked the thermal, but you didn't say which one, that's all,Bettyboop

Thanks again for your help. I had a friend who's an electrician come over. He followed the schematic, tested everything and everything appears to be fine electrically speaking however the dryer still won't start. It is a gas dryer. Is there any thing else you can suggest that I try?

Did the thing just stop working or has it been make any noise???? sound like you have no power going to motor or the motor is burnt out, or if there is lint in the motor housing maybe the end switch on the motor is stuck open and just needs a good cleaning of the lint.

Thanks for you response!!!

The dryer just stopped working. It did the last load with no problems. Two days later it wouldn't start. It wasn't making any noise. My electrician friend told me that there is power coming in to the motor. He also checked the motor according to the directions listed on this website for checking a motor and everything checked ok.

I have no idea what an end switch is in the motor. Can you give me an idea of what I'm looking for so I know what I need to clean out and what is the best way to clean it out?

If it is the motor is it worth replacing or is that one of those situtations where it's best to get a new dryer?
