Default Dryer won't start
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11062842101
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer was running then stopped. There is power to the unit but other than that nothing. No light when the door is open. Timer still clicks when knob is turned if that means anything. I did attempt the whole 'attach the two wires going to the thermal switch together' deal to no avail....thanks......

By thermal switch, do you mean the thermal fuse?

How do you know there is power to the unit?
Did you measured it. Did you measure the 220 volts (L1 to L2) and did you also measure both sides 120 volts (L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral). L1 to Neutral runs the light, timer and the motor at 120 V.

You checked the thermal fuse so the next most likely culprit is the door switch

I had only measured the L2 to nuetral apparently and assumed I was getting the 220 from the cord. So, after reading your post I switched the L1 and L2 and guess what.....I didn't know a cord could go out like that....thanks!

Default check, check and check again...

alright, well, now that the problem is solved, here's what the problem was...it wasn't the cord, I checked the power coming out of the outlet and yup, I was only getting 110 not the 220 so I checked the leads going into the breaker and that was the final culprit. The 30 amp breaker switch was faulty so I went out and bought a new one (after checking the terminals and buses to make SURE that it really was the problem this time ), popped in the new one, hooked up the meter and viola! 220 all the way thru to the dryer. Thanks for your help and I'm glad this site is around I'm sure I'll be back again someday! ,
