Default Dryer wont start
Brand: Roper
Model Number: RES7745PQ0
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Roper electric dryer model # RES7745PQ0. It wont start today worked fine yesterday. Ive checked it for 240 volts and 120 volts all OK. Ive put the ohm meter on the start switch, door switch and thermal fuses evrything is OK, also the timer motor is working. Does anyone know what I should test next or what may be the problem? Thanks Beerbellybuddha

First unplug the dryer, and then take the back off. Not the control panel back, but the big back panel. Once you get it off, take a look in the middle of the back side, and you will see a white piece, about an inch and a half long, and a half inch wide. That is the thermal fuse. That will probably be your problem. If you want to check it and make sure. Pull the 2 wires off of it, and put the two terminals together, and then put some tape around it, so it does not hit any metal, and then plug in the dryer, and hit the start switch. If it works, replace the thermal fuse. If not check your breaker, and your door switch. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Here is a link to the parts breakdown
Whirlpool RES7745PQ0

Do not have a wiring diagram so am doing some guessing

Do you have the wiring diagram.
If not, tale a look in the control console. They like to hide it here.

When you say the timer works, I assume this is in timed dry mode.
Is this correct?

Also when checking switches and thermostats did you use the lowest ohms scale and did you remove the wires from one side of the device you were checking.
If not, you may have been measuring an alternate (parallel) path.

The only thermostat that should effect starting is the Thermal Fuse ( Item 7 in the Bulkhead Parts section)

Usual start circuit is Neutral, Thermal fuse, Door switch, Motor's temp protector, Motor's windings [Run and Start (AUX)], Start switch, Line1

Not sure how this forum works but I did say in my message that I tested the thermal fuse and it was OK

When you checked all of the parts that you said, did you take the wires off to check it? Because you could get a false reading. Basically you said everything you checked is good. If you are as competant as you come accross, then the only thing that is left is the motor. I personally, will not tell you to replace the motor, because in 30 years on that product, I have probably put in 5 motor. So if you are a betting man, what do you think of those odd. Check the power at the plug, and make sure there is 240 volts coming to the terminal block on the dryer. If so, then unplug it, and check the components with your ohm meter. There are only a few things that can keep the dryer for coming on. Incorrect Voltage, the white thermal fuse. Not the one on the heater housing, and a bad motor. Recheck to be sure.
