Default Dryer will not stop running
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE4000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Timer counts down but opening the door is the only way to shut the dryer off.
Does this on auto or timed cycles. Can hear the timer motor running even when the dryer is off. Any ideas on troubleshooting, to locate the defective part?
Thanks!

I am not sure if this helps, but mine did this once. It was a bad heating element. Ours ran all night one time, but it wasn't heating.
