Default Dryer will not start. Makes humming noise when knob is turned to "on" position.
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FDE647RFS1
Age: 1 - 4 years

I've searched and searched for an answer that would correctly identify my problem w/ my particular dryer. I cannot find one, so I do apologize for asking what may seem to be a oft asked question.
My dryer suddenly stopped working. When I turn the knob, I hear a humming sound, it's almost like the dryer wants to work, but can't. I am thinking it's the belt that's gone bad, but from what I've read, it might be the motor? The dryer worked perfectly until a few days ago. No problem w/ heating and it has never been overloaded.
Has anyone had any experience with this model number? Would anyone direct me to the repair manual and/or part number I need to fix this myself? Thank you very much for your time.

To see if it is the start winding in the motor open the door of the dryer hold in on the door switch and press the start button. Turn the drum at the same time. You will need an extra hand.

If the motor start the start winding in the motor has failed and the motor will have to be replace.

Here is a link to your dryer model FDE647RFS1.

You might want to unplug the dryer, and take the front off, and see if a garment has not got stuck in the blower whell. I have see that quite often. Especially when people tend to overload the dryer. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
