I have the same problem - my GE is a coule years old. Drum turns freely, took out the vent screen and nothing there. Vacummed it all out. Just humms, I had a load in there previously and it dried fine. Our knob is broken and have been using pliers to turn it on.

I unplugged it and let it rest, flipped the circuit breaker and nothing seems to be wrong there.

Model # DBSR453EB1WW

From other posts it could be that I need a new motor? Would a new dryer cost less??

It does sound like the start winding in the motor has failed.

Here is a link to your dryer model DBSR453EB1WW.

Here is the motor.

OK, I have the dryer pretty much taken part, could you tell me where the motor is and the best way to acess it.

I have the top and front off. There is a panel in the front that I can take off, but I would assume the motor is on the side, so how do I get the side panel off?

Thank you!

The motor is in the front left corner behind the blower.

You will have to take the drum out to access the motor.
