Arrow Dryer will not heat
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: DDG7985SBLWW
Age: More than 10 years

My General Electric Gas Dryer will not heat. The blower is working, the lamp periodically goes out and the drum still tumbles.

Is there an ignition part that needs to be replaced? If so can I replace it or do I need to get a technition?

Default

Just went through this with my Kenmore. Here's the sequence I went through:

Just for the record: all these should be tested only AFTER the dryer is unplugged

Check all the thermostats for continuity- mine had two plus a high limit "cutoff"- all should show continuity with an ohmmeter

Check the heating element: unplug the leads and check with an ohmmeter- it should read at or around 10 ohms (range of maybe 8-15). If higher of lower, should be visually inspected

Check thermal fuses- they should show continuity

That's the easy stuff.

If all of that is OK, then you have to decide if you have enough skills to do a little more in-depth checks.

Check the motor safety switch (centrifugal switch) for continuity- this requires a fair amount of disassembly to do.

Also , may need to check to be sure that the voltage is correct to the dryer- Not hard, but requires a high level of respect for the potential dangers- 220v IS adequate to kill you.

Best of luck
