Default Dryer will no longer run
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER7646EQ2
Age: 5 - 10 years

We got this dryer used and it was always touchy. Sometimes it ran fine, sometimes not. If it had a heavy load, it would start, heat and run, but then blow the breaker. It seemed to run fine with lighter loads.

Recently, my son put in a very heavy load (he thinks he's still at college, I guess). It ran for a short time and blew the breaker. Now it won't run at all.

There's 240 at the outlet.
Thermal breaker has continuity.
Door switch and start switch seem to test fine.
The timer motor tests okay, but I can't figure out how to test the timer cycles (can't figure out what's what on the wiring diagram... ).

I'd appreciate any guidance...

Thanks,

Mike

Here is your parts
Whirlpool LER7646EQ2

By thermal breaker do you mean the thermal fuse (white) on the blower?
When you measured it did you remove the wires from one side to ensure you are not measuring an alternate path?

Also check your voltage to the Neutral, the motor runs on 120 volts (one side of the line in) not 240.

It is a possibility, that your breaker outside is starting to go. It might need to be replaced. A good way to check as a laymen is, turn the dryer on, and let it run. When it kicks the breaker off, feel the breaker, and see if it is getting hot. That is usually a good indication of a bad breaker. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks for the link to the parts.
Yes, I meant the thermal fuse, and yes, I did remove the wires, thanks.

To check the voltage to neutral, I'd still be in the outlet, but instead of checking the two that result in the 240, I'd check one of those against the third, right?

Thanks again,

Mike
