How hot? Do you have a cheap oven small round thermometor? stick it in the tail pipe, if normal, should 155 degrees, or less, then cycle off and get down to about 125, then cycle back to 145-155 if operating normal. If it stays 150 or more, replace operating & hi-limit thermostats bettyboop

Thanks. I'll get a thermostat and take a reading. What is the difference in function between the thermostat and the high limit thermostat? Is it likely that both of them are bad?

Another question. The parts directory at Sears.com mentions a thermostat, a safety thermostat and a thermal limiter for this machine. Is the safety thermostat the high limit thermostat? What is the thermal limiter? Thanks.

There are 2 thermostats 1 that keeps the drum hot enough to dry your clothes, if it gets way to hot the safety keeps it from burning up the element, if that fails the thermal fuse blows to cutoff current to the element. so you need all 3 to make heat. and don't be cheap allways replace both thermostats at the same time, good insurance.
