Default Dryer thermofuse blown again
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: Performa PYE2000AYW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Maytag Performa PYE2000AYW dryer first stopped working, then I found out the thermofuse was gone. So I replaced the fuse with a new one, but it only worked for a minute or two before the new fuse was blown.

Is it some overheating problem? What could be the potential reasons for the problem? Replace heating element?

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

On your Maytag NON-Performa dryer, you have a clogged vent. That is why you are blowing the thermal fuse. Take the front off the dryer, and you will see a ton and a half of lint in the front blower housing. Clean it all out, and then put it back together, and a new thermal fuse, and then turn it on fluff, no heat, and go outside to your outside dryer vent exhaust, and see if it is blowing good. If not clean it, if so turn the dryer on heat, and go for it. Also take the vent hose off the back of the dryer, and clean it out too. Make sure when you push it back you don't kink the hose. Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I really appreciate it.

So the overheating is definitely due to some blockade of hot air flow? Well, before I replaced the first blown fuse, I did manage to clean up the lint accumulated in the blower area and the vent hose. But I will try to see if there is any lint clog somewhere.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, midwest!

Actually I was also suspecting there might have some problem with the thermostat. I checked the front blower housing and the vent tube and duct, and could not find any blocking. It seems relatively clean.

Last time when the thermal fuse was gone, I only replaced the thermal fuse, but not the high limit thermostat. In the end the new thermal fuse was blown again. I did use a multimeter to check the continuity of the thermostate, and it was fine (0 Ohms). That is why I didn't do anything about the thermostat. So it might be the thermostat that had blown the two thermal fuses?

In other words, when replacing a bad thermal fuse, should I replace both the thermal fuse and the thermostat? Or could the problem be something else such as the heating element?
