Default Dryer stops running when start button is released
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.73932102
Age: 1 - 4 years

My Kenmore dryer stops running when the push to start button is released. The motor will continue to run as long as the button in held.

The electric controller #898404 had a burnt resistor, and I replaced it, but that did not solve the problem.

I have verified that the door switch is functioning properly. The motor relay does not receive a low voltage current when the switch is depressed to activate the relay, however, if I jump the motor leads after pressing the start button, the motor will continue to run after releasing the start button.

Any advise or guidance you can provide would be helpful.

You probably need a new control board.

Appguy,

Thanks for your reply.

In my post i mentioned a burnt resistor on the control board, and that I replaced it. What I replaced was the control board, not the resistor. I see how my post could be read that I replaced the resistor.

Are you saying that the new control board may be bad?

Please help.

Thanks.

Default Switch problem maybe?

It sounds like the button has a problem. Have you looked inside that part to be sure when you push it that it actually makes good contact?

I am sure the push to start button is working correctly. When I push it in, the dryer starts to run, but when I release it, it stops. I also tested the continuity of the switch, which tested OK.

Thanks, but I am still stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the sears part site www3.sears.com They show a motor relay on the panel controlled by a microcomputer. Pn 3405281 This relay is probably bad.
You will need to use the schematic and a meter to check.

Appguy

In my original post, I mentioned that there is no low voltage signal at the relay when the start button is pushed. I'm not sure the problem is the relay because there is not voltage to actuate and test it.

Any idea why there is no low voltage at the motor relay when the start button is pushed?

Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks

You will need to check this dryer out with your meter, check for bad wires, voltages per the schematic. Good luck.
