Default Dryer stops
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LER5636EQ2
Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer stops after 5 mins. I have replaced the motor, tested the thermal fuse, thermal stats thier fine. It will run fine on the cool setting without any issues, it's only when I run it on low or high heat that it shuts off. Please advise

Did you take the back of the control panel off, and look for burn't wires. Does the whole unit shut down after 5 minutes?, and when it shuts down can you turn it back on?. You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

No burnt wires. On high heat once it stops I have to wait awhile for it to start (1 hr+) on low heat just minutes, it will run the entire cycle on no heat.

Here is a link top your unit should help locate parts
Whirlpool LER5636EQ2

Most likely culprit is the High Limit Thermostsat tripping too soon

Disconnect the dryer from the vent
Take a look inside for lint build up
Run a load with it disconnected
If you are worried about lint being blown all over. Take a pair of panty hose, put one leg into the other and attach this to the dryers exhaust. Give it some room so it can fill out, sort of like a wind sock.
If the dryer now runs OK your problem is in the vent system or you are not getting enough air flow.
The above is just the easiest to check

You could check the High Limit by removing the two wires, taping them together so they cannot cause a short to the frame and run a cycle. Make sure to check the output temp or you could blow the thermal fuse.

Denman do you honestly think that the high limit switch would keep the unit off for an hour. I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!. Again, Mr Deman, I don't think we have a vent problem, because the unit is off for an hour. You must read the problem before answering. Do you have a temperature control switch. If so that could be your problem. If not us arm chair technicians won't be able to help you. You might have to call a service tech out to your home. Usually the motor will keep the unit off for a while. But you replaced it. Mr. Deman, I'm sure you will answer this e-mail. Do you have an absolute solution? Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Kayak: No I do not have an absolute solution but I thought a forum was to provide help and suggestions to others and that is what I do.

robert1971: You never did say if you loose power to the entire dryer re: no heater and no motor. The High Limit should only affect the heater. It is strange that your reset is directly related to your temp setting. Kayak does not believe it is the High Limit since this part has low mass and should cool down and reset relatively fast.
The motor resets slower simply because it takes longer to cool down.

I beleive your problem must be in the area of the heater
It is unlikely but it could be a bad or loose connection that heats up, opens and reattaches once cooled down (acts like a thermal overload).

I disconnected the wires to the high limit therm. anyhow (had'nt read the other reply, the guy at the parts house agreed that it could'nt be it either he said the therm would kill the heat but not the motor). Funny thing is, I when I reconnected them the dryer runs fine! I think one of the wires might have been loose?

Mr Denman, sometimes with over 50 years expieience between us, we must know when to realize that we cannot help someone from our perch's. Telling the customer to call a technician, can be there cheapest avenue, because, if you or I were there, we would simply take the unit apart, and find the problem. It could be something very simple. But being high up on our perch's, the clouds could be in the way, and it would be best for a competant service man to do the deed. Tom
