You need a new motor if it is not heating and the dryer won't run unless you hold in the start switch. Tom ApplianceEducator.com Tom

You think it is the motor? I have read all types of posts trying to find info and many have said that it was the motor relay. But I didn't see anyone mentioning that they didn't have heat just the fact the dryer won't run if start button released. Could it be thr relay?? If it is the motor am I better off getting a new dryer? Thanks!

The motor relay is the motor switch that is part of the motor. You can't replace the motor switch, so that is why I say you need a motor. Also the fact that it is not heating is a liitle odd, but the element gets it power from the motor switch, so that would be the reason for that. Unless you try this. Unplug the dryer, and take the back panel off, and jump out the start switch, put some tape around it so it does not hit metal, and see what happens. Do you have a meter? An ohm meter? If so, check the element for continuity. Tom www.applianceeducator Tom

Totally excellent reply. Good one Denman. I have one today to look at, doing the same thing. I thought I would get to the bottom of it today.
