Default Dryer squeak slowly driving me insane
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: dbxr453ga2ww
Age: 5 - 10 years

my GE dryer, model dbxr453ga2ww, has recently developed a squeak when its running. how do i cure the squeak? i heard that a few drops of motor oil (not machine oil) on the tumbler wheel solves this problem. is that correct? also, how do i get at it? does the front or top panel come off or do i have to drag the thing away from the wall and take it apart from the back?

Your squeak could be the idler pulley, the drum bearing or a worn front seal.

Here is a link to your dryer model dbxr453ga2ww.

The front panel is removed first.

There should be two screws in the panel.

Open the door and look up were the door closes against the front.

Remove the screws and the top will lift up.

Then look inside at the front panel. you will see two screws, one in each corner.

Remove these screws and the front panel then can be removed.

Watch the door wires.

Default worn seal?

i took the top off and looked at the front drum seal. it only comes half way up on either side. the drawing online shows that but i want to be sure its supposed to be that way. the drum touches the top of the plastic drum bearing. the squeak does seem to be coming from the front. any suggestions? oil on the bearing?

What you are describing sounds like everything is fine there.

If the squeak sounds like it coming from under the drum then is likely to be the idler pulley.

To get to this you will have to remove the whole front of the dryer.
