Default Dryer shuts-off moments after start
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDET446AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a Maytag electric dryer (Model MDET446AYW), the issue is that moments after starting a cycle the unit shuts-off.

There isn't any blockage in the exhaust, air filter is clean as much as I can tell.

Any suggestions?

Could you be more specific on the amount of time (minutes or seconds)?
By "shut off" do you mean dryer is totally dead?
Does it start to heat then shut down?
How long before you can restart it?
Have you tried it on different cycles re: timed dry etc. ?
Have you tried it on different temp settings re: no heat (fluff)?

By doing the above you are trying to determine if it is an overheating problem or something else.

Could be something as simple as the clothes hitting the door and opening the door switch momentarily which will shut off the dryer.

It shuts off at various times (estimate between 15 sec & 30 sec). When it does all the lights for the Cycle Selector flash then it shuts off.

After it shuts off, it can be restarted right away. So it doesn't require a fuse reset or anything of the sort.

Yes, it does start to heat. I was able to open the unit up to check the air flow to the blower. There was a little lint built up, no clogs, and went ahead and cleaned it while I had the chance.

We have used different cycles & temperature settings, also we ran the unit with no clothes in the drum - same results.

Thanks for the quick response. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

I would run the diagnostics first

Then I would open up the control console and disconnect/ reconnect the all the plugs to the control board and between switches.
Check the pins for corrosion usually a brown coating.
They can be cleaned with electronics cleaner (aerosol can) and a toothbrush. Just be sure they are good and dry before reattaching.
A wrist strap should not be required as long as you touch the dryer frame to ground yourself once in a while.

Would be nice to have more info on the electronics but I cannot find any.
What I think may be happening is that the microprocessor is looking for a certain signal when it does not see it, it shuts down.

Next I would check the thermistor for approx 10,000 ohms (as per manual) at room temperature
I would do this at the plug that attaches to the control board, then you have checked the thermistor and also it's wiring.

I opened up the console and unplugged/plugged all the cables, plugged the power back in (cables were very clean). I started the process to enter the Service Mode, turned the unit off, started to turn counter-clockwise when all the led's light up. I stepped back puzzled and a few moments later, while not touching anything it did the same thing - all the led's lit up. I watched a while longer and it keeps doing the same thing.

Could be a bad board?

Yes, it could be the control board since it seems to fail the diagnostic tests

Could also be a the rotary switch but I would suspect the board first
Trouble is once you order a board you own it, most places will not let you return electronic parts
