Default Dryer screeching
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: LDG8704AAE
Age: More than 10 years

My Maytag dryer suddenly started screeching when running several days ago. I have looked through other posts for possible causes. One interesting note is that the dryer doesn't screech when turned backwards (counter clockwise) by hand but does screech even when turned a little bit by hand clockwise.

Any thoughts?

It will screach because the rollers in the back are most likely your problem. If you are going to go through the time and expense, you might as well replace the idler pully and the belt. The parts are cheap. Maybe $50.00 total. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Thanks for the reply guys. After tearing everything apart the rollers were all OK. It was bad motor bearings. Replaced the motor and belt and everything's back to normal. Would have preferred it to have been a $20 roller instead of a $100 motor!
