Default Dryer runs only when start button held down but does not heat.
Brand: Please select
Model Number: 63932102
Age: 5 - 10 years

When you hold the start button down the drum turns but there is no heat and when you release the start button the drum stops. Have put the dryer timer settings on the various cycles (timed, auto dry, etc.) and the same thing happens. Have checked the recepticle voltages and both 220 v and 110 v are present. While holding down the start button and opening the dryer door, the dryer shuts down. While holding the start button down, the drum turns and cold air moves out of the vent. Previous posting responses have indicted that the "run" winding in the motor has failed giving me my problem. If I disconnect the electrical wires to the motor and check the continunity of each winding, if there is a failed winding should there be no continunity? If both windings are good should I show continunity on both? Could it be that the start and run windings are good but the centrifugal switch that puts the power from the "start" to the "run" winding has failed? From the circuit diagram it appears there is also a switch associated with the centrifugal switch that also closes and allows the heating elements to come on. Thus is it possible for the windings to be good but the switch that controls the power to the windings and allows the heating elements to heat is the defective item? Can this switch be purchased separate from the motor and be replaced or is it built into the motor and the motor should be replaced?

Default

The start winding get the motor started and then the run winding takes over.

Once the motor is up to speed the centrifugal switch is engaged and the dryer run and heat.

With the run winding not engaging the centrifugal switch is not thrown to activate the heat.

Your motor run winding has failed and the motor will have to be replace.
