Default Dryer Running Very Hot
Brand: Frigidaire
Age: 1 - 4 years

Not 100% sure of the age since the dyer we have came with the house we bought two years ago, but I would say at least 3. to 4 years old.

So maybe like once every two months the dryer gets wicked hot on top. Too hot to even touch. If you let it keep running the entire basement smells like something is on fire. I have cleaned and changed the metal vent. Cleaned out the lint filer. Made sure the outside vent was not blocked. Not really sure what else I can do. Its at the point where we have to watch every load we dry now for fear of burning the house down.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Is it a simple fix or are we better off just getting a new dryer?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

The first thing I would do, is change the operating thermostat, that keeps temp at say 150 degrees, and the also change the hi-limit thermostat, that limits over heating, you have to replace both!! If your dryer is realy free of lint in the blower area, and you replace the thermostats, your dryer should go back to normal.
