Question Dryer rumble
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: mde9316
Age: 5 - 10 years

I've read all your good info and think it is either the broken blower wheel or a flattened roller-in either case does anyone know how fast I should get going on this before it turns into scrap metal? Thanks

When you start it up does it sound like a train, then eventually sort of fade as the load is in for a while? If so, its the rollers. Typically, what happens, you will have a load in the dryer( rubber rollers are warm and soft). Take that load out and put in another load. Then you have to go somewhere so you dont run the load right away. Now, you have a load in the dryer (weight) and its sitting on the now soft rollers. This causes flat spots on them. Hope this helps. As far as turning into scrap metal....naaaaaa. Ive never seen that. The sound will annoy you but thats about it. I would get them changed, but dont lose more than 5 minutes sleep over it.

The easiest way to tell if it is the rollers or the blower whell without taking the dryer apart is, if you turn on the dryer, and when you shut it off, and the drum comes to a stop, and the noise continues for a few seconds, then that is the blower whell. It is broken on the motor shaft. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
