Default Dryer part numbers
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MDE6400AYW
Age: 1 - 4 years

I found two pictures on this site of the part (timer) that I need. (My pull-to-start knob quit working) However the numbers do not match the part, and I cannot find a series number. The numbers on my part are 3170A MAYTAG 6 3720660 M285 and KINGSTON 71016-A00084. Which timer should I choose?

You will need the serial number off of your dryer to get the proper timer for your dryer.

Here is a link to your dryer model MDE6400AYW.

Default dryer parts numbers

Now I'm frustrated. After waiting a week, my part showed up tonight and did not work. It is labeled Whirlpool, and I specifically ordered what I thought was a Maytag part. My dryer is Maytag Model MDE6400AYW, series # 19501767CL. The timer part that we removed had the numbers 3170A MAYTAG 6 3720660 M285 and KINGSTON 71016-A00084 on the label.

Can you tell me exactly the item number that I need to order?

Thank You!

Maytag was bought out by Whirlpool but the name on the part will not make a difference.

In what way is it not working?

Does it not mount in the space?

What is the part number of the item that you received?

The pull-to-start knob just quit working--I'd pull but nothing would happen. It acted like it would start for a second but then died. My husband, an electrician, took the back console apart, and thinks the problem must be in the timer. The part I received has the numbers 7242B WHIRLPOOL 33002855 M295 and KINGSTON 71698-A 02417. The parts look 99% the same, but the new part has one extra prong where you connect the wires, and the piece that attaches to the knob can be pushed in, whereas my piece can not be pushed in. My husband attached the wires to the new part, turn on the breaker, and tested to see if the dryer would start, but nothing happened. We figured that we must have gotten the wrong part--wrong series? wrong brand? we don't know.

Thanks!!

It may not be the timer that is your problem.

It may be the thermal fuse that is located on the heater housing.

Your husband should check it for continuity.

If you have not found the serial number to your dryer it should be on the same tag with the model number.
